Venetian tradition holds in Venice
Venetian tradition was in full practice, despite the incidence of the coronavirus.
It was a sight to behold as the city's historical regatta - full of spectacular gondolas and costumes - brightened up the waters of the Grand Canal over the weekend.
Each September, the festival, which dates back to the 13th century, brings Italy's past maritime glory back to life as replica boats and costumed characters race up and down the waters - finishing in front of the Ca' Foscari palace.
A popular tourist event, thousands again lined the waters edge but this year, they wore face masks to protect against coronavirus and prevent another lockdown.
