There was drama earlier on in the first when Diego Costa converted the ball into his own net when he could not react well enough to clear a corner kick from Messi in the 11th. Mac-Andre ter Stegen initially saved a poor penalty from Diego Costa after Arturo Vidal brought down Carrasco , only to be saved by VAR after it was observed that the keeper left his line before the penalty was taken. The penalty was ordered to be taking again and this time Saúl Niguez made no mistake sending ter Stegen the wrong way.

Barcelona regained their lead with an amazing Panenka penalty from Lionel Messi five minutes after restart punishing Felipe Luis for his mistake. It was Carrasco who won another penalty again with Saúl one more time drawing Athletico level on the night of Messi's amazing goal record of 700th career goal.
The result means Barca continue their not so good form, drawing three out of their last four games. Now Barcelona will be praying for Real Madrid not to win Today. Otherwise things won't be so good for Barca.

In other results.
Earlier on Mallorca whopped Celta Vigo 5 goals to 1 in an entertaining match at the lberostar Estadi.

Sevilla went away to Leganes and won 3 goals to nil with an amazing brace Óliver Torres and a goal from Munir.
