Unknown Gunmen Invade Fulani's settler Killed 3 herdsmen and 9 Cows in Kogi State


No fewer than Three Fulani herdsmen and nine cows were killed on Thursday, in Egume, Dekina local government Area (LGA) of Kogi state by unknown gunmen.

The sad incident was disclose to newsmen in Lokoja the State capital on Saturday by the Assistant Secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, Mallam Ademu Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Wakili Yusuf Damina.

According to him, at about 8am on Thursday, some heavily armed gunmen invaded Fulani community at Ofanwa Elubi in Egume opened gun fire on the Fulani people and killed three persons on the spot while about nine cows were also killed during the deadly attack. Abubakar said the attack has been reported to the DPO at the police station in Egume for prompt action. He recalled that the Fulani community came under similar attack on 10th March, 2020.

“This was another attack on our innocent members who were gruesomely killed in cold blood on the 14th May, 2020. The repeated killings of our people in Igala land is becoming unbearable. “This time around, they launched the attack at our camp. They started shooting at them without any offence at all,” he said.

An emotional Abubakar appealed to the state government to come to their aid and prevent further attacks. Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah who confirmed the incident on Saturday said the command had already commenced search for the killers. Ayah added that the State Commissioner of Police has deployed armed men to the area to avert further attacks.

The reason for the attacks is still unknown. The names of the deceased victims, according to available information, are Tine Idris, Fatu Idris and Abdulkareem Saleh.
