Following the alleged demolition of the Rainbow Town Central Mosque located at the Trans-Amadi Area of Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the Kano state government has vowed to institute legal action against Governor Nyesom Wike.
The development was made public in a press statement released by Abba Anwar, the chief press secretary to the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, The Nation reports.
Eagle Media TV gathers that the Kano government described the alleged demolition as shocking, and promised that “necessary lawful action must be taken over the happening.”
The statement disclosed that Ganduje would institute “legal action against this demolition of the Mosque as well as contest it with appropriate authorities for redress.”
Anwar quoted the Kano governor as saying: “We received this information with high degree of shock, and I am assuring the general public that all necessary action against this demolition will be taken through appropriate authorities.”
The governor urged members of the public to go about their normal business and remain calm and peaceful.
He said: “As government, we have started touching appropriate quarters against the demolition.
“Kano state is known for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians; we should therefore improve on that and remain calm and peaceful.
Previously reports have it that Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano state, berated Governor Nyesom Wike over the alleged demolition of a mosque in Port Harcourt.
In a statement he personally signed on Friday, August 30, Shekarau said that all rational and conscious citizens of the country should join in condemning Wike for recklessly.
