Read his full speech bellow;
History beckons as I assume legislative duties as the 6th Senator, Kogi Central Senatorial District on June 11, 2019, in the democratically conducted senatorial election in February 16th, where I emerged victorious.
By virtue of the power vested in President Muhammadu Buhari in section 64(3) which empowers him to make proclamation for the conduct of the first session of the National Assembly where I will be sworn-in, I must say, that I am set for the new challenges ahead as I take oath of office.
Recall that in 1999 when the country returned to democratic rule, Late Sen. Ahmed Tijani Ahmed was elected (1999-2003) as the representative of the Kogi Central to the Red Chamber. From 2003-2017, Senator Mohammed Ohiare equally represented Kogi Central at the Red Chamber. Late Senator Salihu Otaru Ohize also reigned from 2007 to 2011. Senator Nurudeen Abatemi Usman was elected in 2011 to legislate on behalf of Kogi Central till 2015 when Senator Ahmed Salawu Ogembe took the baton from him.
Today, I have taken the baton and I assure you all that the much-needed democratic dividends would not elude you, my people.
Governance is a continuum, I will utilise my first year in office to consolidate on the achievements my immediate predecessor started.
From the second year hereafter, I will be taking part in budget planning and implementation.
I am a grassroot politician and for emphasis, I will never be detached from the people who overwhelmingly gave me the mandate to represent them at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
Our work plan and strategies to lift our communities from its present state has been perfected and your constructive contributions would be entertained. Support and pray along with us at both state and Federal legislative levels as we embark on yet another phase of our political journey.
I call on all well meaning people of Kogi Central to, as a matter of patriotism, shun pettiness which is capable of dragging the progress of the constituency, elections are over.
In the spirit of transparency, fair hearing and accountability, I urge you all to reach me through this email: [email protected] to table your complaints, suggestions and commendations.
Finally, I use this medium to appreciate individuals, organizations and various union leaders who considered me worthy of honour and awards to put them on hold till two years into my office when such awards could be given based on my performance in the Red Chamber.
Alhaji (Dr) Yakubu Oseni.OMOKOSHABAN
