Police arrests IKANDA over murder of Onitsha-based businessman Ndu Nwokolo


Police in Anambra state has arrested a wanted murder suspect Ikechukwu Udensi (alias IKANDA) in connection with the murder of a successful businessman, late Ndubuisi Nwokolo on Friday June 29 last year, just a day before the ban of commercial motorcycle in Onitsha.

Recall that the late 38-year-old Ndubuisi Nwokolo of No 21 Otamoye Street Odoakpu Onitsha was murdered in cold blood by IKANDA and his gang using offensive weapons like machetes and cutlass on the victim.

The death of Mr Nwokolo generated public outcry in the state, raising questions to why IKANDA should be killing people in the course of revenue collection or at any slightest provocation.

Parading the suspect today at Police Headquarters Amawbia, the Commissioner of Police Mr Mustapha Dandaura said the command launched aggressive manhunt for the fleeing perpetrators and declared the ring leader IKANDA wanted with a ransome of one million naira for anybody that could provide information leading to his arrest.

He noted that police operatives attached to the Command Operation Udoka and Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), raided a criminal hideout at Menax near down-flyover Onitsha and arrested the notorious suspect IKANDA, 27 years of age from Azia town in Ihiala council area of Anambra state.

The Police Commissioner said the suspect is assisting the police with useful information that could help in arresting other fleeing members of his gang in order to bring them to justice.

Asked why he murmured Ndubuisi Nwokolo on June 29 last year, IKANDA denied killing the deceased and attributed it to his boys.

He said he works as a revenue collector who make timely returns to Anambra state government.

Meanwhile the mother of the deceased, Mrs Kate Nwokolo has continually cried for justice against IKANDA over the unwarranted gruesome murder of his son and breadwinner of the family (Ndubuisi Nwokolo), leaving behind his wife and children to wallow in penury since nine months ago.
