Danny Young, filed N200 million lawsuit against Tiwa Savage

An afro-pop music singer,called Ajibola Olumuyiwa Danladi, know on his stage name as Danny Young, had N200 million lawsuit filed against Tiwa Savage and the entire Mavins Records for copyright infringement allegation.

The musician made up his mind to take legal action against Tiwa and her record label, Mavin for using his lyrics from his 2009 hit single title 'Oju Ti Won' in her new song title 'One', unlawfully without his permission.

The lawsuit with a Suit No: FHC/L/CS/230/2019, which was filed at Lagos Federal High Court on February 13 has it first time brought to public notice.

Danny Young in the recent back come out to accuse Tiwa Savage on social media, for using his song in her song without his permission, as such lead YouTube to take down the music video 'but the allegation was condemned by Tiwa Savage fans, and accused him of cheap name seeker, who want to make name with other person works.

Meanwhile, after reviews of the music, YouTube restored the video on Sunday, saying Danny Young’s petition as ‘unfounded’.

Open investigation, the Danny Young said he have no order way to address the issue other than taken legal action against her because she refuse to respond to him when he reach out to Tiwa Savage.

His statement read: “Tiwa, I know people love you, even me. But I still have to sue you because you stole my shit. A simple dialogue would have solved this but you preferred it this way. Now we will be in court discussing some N200,000,000 damages”,.

In an interview with Danny Young lawyer, Mr. Justin Ige, on the matter, he have these to say; “Piracy is bad enough, but it is perhaps worse when creative people appear to completely disrespect the intellectual property rights of fellow creative. Such conduct should not be without due consequences. A lay man may not understand what we are fighting for as it is more technical than just the lyrics. Nigeria is a place where writers do not get credits from the artiste they wrote songs for because the artiste wants to get all the glory alone. Producers also do not know that they have a right to royalties even after being paid for the beat. If I contribute one word to your composition, I automatically have a right to credits as one of the writers. This is a world standard and anything less is unacceptable especially when coming from an artiste that has international exposure,.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, no effort was made to reach Tiwa Savage, management or Mavin Records to have their takes on the issue.
