ASUU FORCED THE FEDERAL TO MAKE A U-TURN ON HND BSc DICHOTOMY.
The Federal Government has, finally agree to reverse it 23 April 2018 decision on the abolished dichotomy between university
and polytechnic graduates in the
civil service as demanded by the ASUU.
To me it is ungodly and hypocritical to discriminate between degree and HND in the workforce. They failed to acknowledge the productivity and technical know-how of the Polytechnic graduate.
As far as am concerned, this is one of the
hypocrisy that is prevalent, unfortunately, in our body polity in the country and this must be resisted by the ASUP and Nigerians.
All these arguments are nothing but pure
sentiments. I want to say, with due respect. It is all hypocrisy in the land.
Honestly speaking, at this time and age where all forms of discrimination are being eliminated in all facets of life both locally and internationally, why do we want to continue this discrimination against HND graduates?
On the number of years being spent in university and polytechnic, it takes five years to earn an HND while the number of years being spent in the university to earn degrees is mostly four with few courses spending five years.
The fact of the matter is that th degree holder happens to be in the civil service earlier than the HND holders. So, they have been the ones piloting the affairs of even, the Ministry of Education and all other government agencies and they always feel threatened by the HND holders in terms of services delivery and productivity.
It is highly unfortunate and the highest case of hypocrisy because the committee setup by the minister of Education is yet to submit it reports and recommendations, so the question here is on which ground did the government take it decision?
The committee in question is being dominated by degree holders. They are obviously going to continue with the whole agenda of discrimination there so Justice and fairness is not expected at all.
The downgrade and neglect on the striking Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUU and their demands by the government is another indications of total injustice to the Polytechnics in Nigeria.
This is the fact of the matter. I am an HND holder. I graduated from the famous Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria. I am bold to say that I competed favourably with Degree student during my IT in Kaduna Refinery in 2015.
I dare any University student to challenge me in the field of electrical electronics engineering and see how best my lecturers and lab technicians build me.
